Steven Washington is the author of Recovering You: Soul Care and Mindful Movement for
Overcoming Addiction.
Recovering You is a holistic addiction recovery guide that meets the readers wherever they are on
their journey to wellness. It’s an uplifting, transformational book that features mindful movement, self-
inquiry, and community building, along with other valuable tools. My goal is to help readers live a more
conscious and joyous life by recovering the self they lost to addiction.
Everyone has some addiction. When we hear the word, we think of alcohol or drug addiction. However, habits come in numerous forms. Are you addicted to talking negatively about yourself? Others? Is your addiction in the form of having to compete with others? These “hidden” addictions can keep us from reaching our true potential, blocking us from the necessary soul care.
Soul care is tending to the mind, body, and spirit. When we address all three individually or collectively, we positively impact our soul because they are all connected. Every practice in Recovering You is nourishing for the soul. Whether through movement, massage, breathing, meditation, recovery tools, compassionate self-inquiry, or hearing about the experiences of others, you are tending to the health and well-being of the deepest part of you, which is your soul.
